Living Forward
As I reflect over the past 12 months I am reminded that my life MUST be lived forward. There is no other way to live. Each day-each moment is in the now. The past is over. I can do nothing to change it. I can only change today. How I live-by what I say-how I act-what I give this day. Remember that life is like a moving sidewalk, looking behind and trying to get back will only cause you to miss out on what could be right now. So be present. Stay focused, and take every opportunity that is available to
you today. Use your gifts to serve others. Smile. Challenge the status quo within yourself to be the best you right now. I’m not talking about perfectionism. There will always be less than perfect days, but the best you now can always be even with a headache, flat tire, or dwindling bank account. Our goodness towards others flows from God’s goodness towards us. Since God is always good towards us we can use
that to help us be good to others. I so often find that when I’m having difficulty showing kindness towards others I haven’t spent enough time receiving kindness from my Heavenly Father. It’s so easy to lose track of who I am in Christ and get caught up in the worlds’ standard of success. Oh how that can rob me of the opportunity to live in the present. It can get me thinking of what I could have, should have, and might have done differently to be at a different place right now. This thinking never changes anything. It doesn’t change the now no matter how long I think or worry about it. So be present today. Live your best right now, with those that are right in front of you. Don’t get caught up in the emptiness of competition with others. Compete with yourself to be better this year than last year. Be more present, patient, and persistent in discovering your calling and special way of making this world a brighter place for yourself as well as those around you.
